Shibori Workshop

Shibori is a Japanese resist-dyeing technique which produces beautiful patterns on fabric with indigo dye.

Join Akemi's hands-on workshop and learn the art of shibori dye in a small group setting.

During the workshop, you'll learn a variety of techniques including Murakumo and Itajime. After practising these techniques on Japanese cotton bandanas, you can create more shibori patterns on a tote bag, cushion cover or cotton scarf.

Shibori is a wonderful way to explore your creativity. All are welcome, no prior experience is necessary. If you have any questions please contact Akemi for more information.

Spaces are limited so register online now to secure your spot.

Duration: The workshop is three hours.

Price: $100 per person. All materials are included.

Testimonials

"I was astounded and delighted by the outcome of the Shibori Workshop I attended, conducted recently by Akemi Kikuchi. So much was achieved and so much was learnt - several different Shibori methods, complete with names both in Japanese and English.

The workshop was enviably organised and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in, or passionate about, the Shibori methods, indigo dyeing and Japanese culture.

The items that were a product of the session are a joyful reminder of the time spent benefiting from Akemi's vast knowledge and experience."

"Akemi is one of the most delightful people I have ever met. She curated a fabulous workshop for us so we could create a quilt to give to our dear friend who was expecting a baby.

Akemi taught us how to create beautiful dyed pieces of fabrics using these ancient techniques. I highly recommend attending one of Akemi’s workshops or even having a chat with her and creating your own personalized event together.

The event Akemi curated and the piece we were then able to create will be held in our hearts and memories forever."
